General Info

Tucked away in the lively streets of Kobe, Yassan Honten brings a refreshing balance of tradition and comfort to the local sushi scene. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels relaxed yet refined, with a layout that thoughtfully includes wheelchair accessible seating, making it welcoming for a wide range of diners. The space is clean and well-organized, and with Wi-Fi available and a convenient restroom on-site, it’s easy to settle in and enjoy a slow, satisfying dinner.

What really defines this restaurant is its menu, which leans into both classic sushi craftsmanship and carefully curated sets. The 特上握り10貫 is a standout for anyone wanting to sample premium cuts in a single sitting-each piece feels deliberate, fresh, and well-balanced. Meanwhile, the おまかせ膳 8000円 2人前 offers a more immersive experience, especially when shared, delivering a sequence of dishes that highlight the chef’s intuition and respect for seasonal ingredients. For something a bit more indulgent, the combination of てっさ&唐揚げ adds a playful contrast of textures, pairing delicate slices with crispy bites.

If you’re in the mood for something hearty yet still rooted in seafood tradition, the 特上ちらし寿司 and 海鮮丼 both deliver generous portions layered with vibrant ingredients. These dishes feel both satisfying and visually appealing, making them popular picks among regulars and first-time visitors alike. Based on consistent reviews and local chatter, the quality of ingredients and attention to detail are what keep people coming back.

Service here flows smoothly, and while the tone remains casual and approachable, there’s a quiet professionalism in how everything is handled. Dinner reservations are recommended, especially during peak hours, which speaks to the restaurant’s steady popularity. For those planning small gatherings or special occasions, catering services are also available, adding another layer of convenience.

Overall, Yassan Honten feels like one of those places where everything just works-the location is easy to find in Kobe’s Chuo Ward, the menu offers depth without being overwhelming, and the overall dining experience feels genuine. It’s the kind of sushi restaurant where you can return multiple times and still find something new to appreciate, whether it’s a different set, a seasonal twist, or simply the consistency that defines a trusted local favorite.

What customers say?

“ Walked into this store blindly looking to get my hands on some sushi, ended up ordering a conger eel course (I realised they had an english menu after lol) Food was nothing to rave about but their customer oriented service was definitely one to remember. The old lady who was serving me was the sweetest person I have met so far on the trip, with her outpouring enthusiasm to share and explain every single dish to me even though i did not understood a single word. These series of interactions made the whole dining experience so much better. Thank you obaa-chan! ”

“ A small generational family run (Assumed, they look alike) restaurant that serves fresh sea eel and stone fish as their main selling point. Grandpa was both strict looking but friendly. Was willing to accept late customers like us. Order their signature stonefish sashimi and was not disappointed at all. Have yet to seen this fish being served as sashimi before in my travel. Situated in the middle of night life Kobe and close to the train station. Please do visit them if you have the chances. ”

“ A fantastic restaurant! We ordered the sushi special. Even the appetizers, like the steamed egg, were amazing. The seasoning was thoughtful and unique; the steamed egg was soft, tender, and incredibly delicious. The tempura—shrimp, fish, and vegetables—was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The nigiri sushi featured very fresh fish, and the mackerel was perfectly marinated. The most surprising dish was the white eel nigiri sushi—it melted in your mouth! If you ever visit Kobe, I highly recommend trying this place. An absolutely fantastic dining experience! We ordered the sushi set, and from the very first bite — the appetizers and the steamed egg custard — we were blown away. Every detail of the seasoning was thoughtful and full of character. The steamed egg was incredibly soft, silky, and packed with fresh flavor. The tempura — featuring shrimp, fish, and vegetables — was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining juicy and tender inside. The nigiri sushi showcased exceptionally fresh fish; even the marinated mackerel was expertly prepared. The biggest surprise was the white eel nigiri — it simply melted in our mouths. If you're visiting Kobe, this is a must-try spot for true food lovers! ”

“ They've moved to Dongmen Street and are looking great! [Food Review] The food is worth the price! The owner beautifully prepares fresh fish. [Service Review] Perhaps it's a family-run business? The customer service is friendly. I'm amazed and respectful that the owner (the chef) is over 80 years old and has taken on a new challenge! I hope he stays healthy and keeps up the great work! [Atmosphere Review] Enjoy sake, delicious fish, and friendly service—a relaxing place to dine! *If you found this information helpful, please like and follow us! ”

“ The staff were so friendly that the ⭐︎1 star review seemed like the opinion of one person across multiple doujin accounts! The courses are easy to understand and there's also an a la carte option! It's a shame they don't have eel, but the steamed conger eel, fatty tuna, and egg were excellent. 24 dishes, 2 soups, and 2 chawanmushi for two people cost 15,400 yen. ”

“ I suddenly had a craving for fugu and found this restaurant. They readily agreed when I called to say I was on my way. Yasu's sashimi is thicker than at other restaurants, so it's very satisfying. Before the fugu hotpot, we had shabu-shabu. It was my first time trying shabu-shabu, and it was surprisingly delicious. The shabu-shabu, served with a large kelp broth, was just the right thickness, and the texture and flavor were a completely different experience from the hotpot. The female waitress explained that in addition to the mouth, the navel and belly are also delicious parts of the fugu hotpot. Naturally, the hotpot was delicious. Fugu requires some preparation, but even though I showed up unexpectedly and was in a rush, they apologized, saying, "I'm sorry it took so long to serve you," which was humbling. The owner, who is 80 years old, is very knowledgeable and dexterous, and there are various artworks in the shop, such as tin cups and wall hangings... I enjoyed more than just the food. Next time, I'll definitely order shabu-shabu when I order fugu. ”

“ I wanted to eat scorpionfish, so I ordered the Wind Course (8,000 yen plus tax). I had the chef's son prepare an appetizer and waited for a while until the chef arrived. I thought it would only be scorpionfish sashimi, but it also had conger eel, turban shell, squid and tuna, so it was very filling. I was a little scared that he was still moving his face, but scorpionfish is delicious after all! The butter-fried fish was also quite large, so I was already full. The rice in the 10 special nigiri sushi was small, but I couldn't finish it, so I took the steamed conger eel and egg home and ate them for breakfast at the hotel the next day. The sushi itself wasn't as good as I expected. The scorpionfish miso soup was delicious. ”

“ The manufacturer entertained us! It was delicious! It was as delicious as the photo shows. There were three of us, so we sat oddly side-by-side, which didn't really fit the atmosphere... That was the only disappointing thing. I forgot to take a picture of the drinks. ”
